Grawinkel & Matthias Strobel ft. Freud – Kurt [EYED009]

‘Day’, sets the scene (and the sun) with dusk-till-dawn storytelling across heavy drums, gentle bass and open-road riffs. Matthias Strobel’s guitar takes centre stage on ‘Eduart’, its journey accompanied by distant, growling sub-bass and dubbed-out percussion. Grawinkel’sstaple basslines enter the scene in ‘Drift’, where string-bending sirens descend across rhythmic stabs. Both Grawinkel’s and Matthias Strobel’s expression crescendos in ‘Vozz’, where a firmly rooted rhythm provides the backbone to a denouement of chuckling wobbles and distorted solos. Penning the epilogue of the ‘Kurt’ EP, Freud allows the dust to settle and the clouds to clear in his lo-fi ‘Drift’ remix, which features freshly recorded guitar licks from Freud himself. Eyesome is proud to officially release this rare blend of organic soundsystem music after the two have been experimenting and collaborating across 2021. The friendship built through recording and collaborating on ‘Kurt’ runs through the EP’s elegant scales wonky basslines. Matthias Strobel and Freud bring a soul-warming lift to Grawinkel’s trademark grizzly textures, brightening the pathway through winter into spring with the ‘Kurt’ EP.
