Duckem has been a long time member of the bass music scene. After spearheading the infamous Indigo Movement for several years and being responsible for the quality which, thanks to Alex’ efforts, saw the light of day and gave artists the opportunity to climb the ladder. Besides all things Indigo, Duckem also has put out a respectable stack of beats via various platforms like Bassin, Locus Sound, Foundation Audio and most recently an EP with the Portsmouth based Dread or dead records alongside remixes from Saraphim and B-Say.
His Vendista EP on Eyesome is a bit of a special one as this project came from Duckems urge to connect his past and his future in Greece. After spending several years abroad in the UK, Duckem decided to go back and pick up where he had left off. All 4 tracks on this EP showcase his roots and love for traditional Greek music. 140 bassweight with a musical folk touch like you never heard before.
Shepherd’s Dub is a tribute to the shepherds of the mountains. It tells the story of trying to keep kettle alive during the cold winter months in the mountains of Greece. Shepherds dub is cold, grimey and tough as a tank stomping the ground like grandpa’s well-experienced & worn-out feet.
Vendista Brigada highlights Duckem’s love for the clarinet, an instrument which is a way of unleashing all the pain, anger and suffering inside of you. At times, it’s screaming, then crying and can evolve into a slightly more moody or angry vibe. Vendista Brigada is about never giving up the fight, no matter what. Get up, prepare your fists and give it your best shot!
The clarinet returns in Pinus Nigra accompanied by a vocalist giving the listener the steppa/dubbed out feeling. The name of the track ressembles the endless seas of pine trees covering majistic mountains.
Greek villages were burned to the ground during WWII and some ended up losing their entire population. Up until today, bullet holes in the walls of these villages are still a reminder of that. White river is like the silent assassin, the rebel in the mountains, who always watches. Countless Nazis left their guard down in these mountains. Stealth mode activated.
